Camp Sababa Senior

Camp Sababa Senior is a 4-day overnight camp for teenagers and young adults living with disabilities. Camp is held every year in or around early December, comprising of campers and companions. Campers are teenagers and young adults living with disabilities, aged 14 to 24 and companions are young adult (18+) volunteers. Each camper is paired with one or two companions who they can count on for support and friendship.

The four days are jam-packed with a range of fun outdoor recreational, craft, music, sport and social activities catered to the needs of all our campers and companions.

History of Camp
Sababa Senior

Following the success of Camp Sababa Junior, Camp Sababa Senior was founded in 2012 by a group of companions. They recognised the importance of the friendships, fun and inclusion facilitated by Camp Sababa and wanted to extend this to young adults with disabilities and their families.

In order to cater for the growing Camp Sababa community and taking into consideration the differing interests of young adults, a separate camp was formed.

Camp Sababa Senior Testimonials

  • Asher Klein

Camp Sababa has consistently been a highlight of my year. Often for volunteering jobs people will describe it as “fulfilling”. Oftentimes they’ll say this because the experience was hard or unpleasant but, in retrospect, is something they are glad to have done; kind of like a workout. Camp Sababa is not only fulfilling but it is also a genuinely enjoyable and joyful experience throughout. This is not a grueling workout which leaves you out of breath and only “happy” at the burnt calories. This is like a game of sports in which you have fun the entire time AND feel glad and healthy afterwards. Camp Sababa has completely changed my perspective and enlightened me to the special needs community and has given me a chance to make many friends and to connect to the wider community. The organisation is impeccable, the people are wonderful and the campers are always a blast. Camp Sababa is a place that brings all people together and I'll be coming back every year until it literally becomes impossible.

When I signed up for Camp Sababa I had no idea that I was about to embark on one of the most memorable few days of my life. Not only was the camp full of laughter, exciting activities and huge amounts of fun, I experienced inclusion in a way that I never envisioned I would. I have made lifelong, genuine friendships. I cannot wait to reunite with everybody this year.

Camp Sababa is one of the most special, life changing experiences. Not only is it a week filled with fun games, activities and SO much laughter, but the friendships and memories shared with your buddies last a lifetime. And you learn so much from them! Quoting Camp Sababa veteran and now one of my close friends Mikey Sarif, “the best things in life are free” - the Camp Sababa experience and all the friendships and memories made certainly make this a reality. Already counting down till next camp!

  • Jodie Velik

I feel so fortunate to be a part of the Sababa family. Being able to challenge myself and step out of my comfort zone has allowed me to grow - each day providing a new learning opportunity. The incredible bonds built between the campers and buddies has reminded me the importance of recognising people for who they are, rather than who they are not. With such a large support network, I was able to embrace the challenges of camp and truly have fun!
